Choosing the right orbital welding equipment is like being asked to choose the right car.

They come in all different shapes and sizes, have various cutting edge technology, top-tier manufacturing, highest level of reliability, maximum aftersales dependability etc etc, you get the picture. They range from cheap to expensive, there are numerous dealerships for every make and every single manufacturer claims to have the “Worlds Best” cars. But fundamentally all they do is just get you from A to B.

Selecting the right Orbital welding equipment is exactly the same predicament. All manufacturers claim to have the worlds best products, highest quality, best extra gadgets etc but ultimately they all just produce an orbital weld. In general, the Orbital welding process requires a dedicated computerised orbital power supply and an orbital welding torch assembly (usually referred to as a “weld head”). You will also need some essential supporting orbital process tools to ensure you achieve the maximum results from your orbital welding system. The orbital power supply and weld head combination depends on what you want to weld and other certain characteristics.

Tube is usually welded with Closed type weld heads. Closed weld heads are used for autogenous welds (no wire) and below 3mm wall thicknesses (depending on material).
Pipe is usually welded with Open Arc type weld heads. Open Arc weld heads can weld autogenously and are also capable of automatically adding a filler wire for thicker walled pipes, special materials or special applications.

All the power supplies available from each manufacturer will work with their full range of weld heads.
Some weld heads are compatible to work with other manufacturers power supplies and vice-versa, but please check with us for full details.
